Why Install This?
Benefits
- Incremental gains that stack well with other bolt-on mods
- Easiest exhaust upgrade — just the tips and muffler section
- Mainly changes the sound character without significant flow changes
- Easy bolt-on installation — most people can do this in their driveway with basic tools
What Does This Do?
An axle-back exhaust replaces only the rear section — from the rear axle to the tailpipe tips. It's the simplest, cheapest exhaust upgrade because you're only replacing the mufflers and tips, not the entire system. The Borla S-Type uses their straight-through core design for a deep, smooth tone. Benefits: noticeable sound improvement at a lower price than a full cat-back, easy 30-minute install with basic hand tools (just two clamps and two hangers), Borla's T-304 stainless with a million-mile warranty, and the polished tips look great. Trade-offs: power gains are minimal (5-8 HP) because the rest of the exhaust system is still restrictive. The sound improvement is real but less dramatic than a full cat-back. If budget allows, a cat-back gives you more power and a bigger sound change. But if you want to dip your toes into exhaust mods without a big commitment, an axle-back is the perfect starting point. You can always upgrade to a full cat-back later.
