Why Install This?

Benefits

  • Incremental gains that stack well with other bolt-on mods
  • Improved exhaust flow and aggressive exhaust note
  • Cat-back systems are 50-state legal since they're behind the catalytic converters
  • Moderate install — doable in a home garage with some mechanical experience

Things to Know

  • Sound level varies by brand — some are very loud, others more refined

What Does This Do?

A cat-back exhaust replaces everything from the catalytic converters (the 'cat') to the tailpipe tips. The Borla ATAK is their most aggressive option — it stands for 'Acoustically Tuned Applied Kinetics,' which means Borla engineers specifically tuned the exhaust note for maximum aggression while maintaining a clean, non-raspy sound. Benefits: 12+ HP gain, an incredibly aggressive exhaust note that's deep and rich (not tinny or raspy), T-304 stainless steel construction with a million-mile warranty, and the polished tips look factory-quality. Borla has been making performance exhausts since 1978 — they know what they're doing. Trade-offs: the ATAK is LOUD. If you live in a neighborhood with sensitive neighbors, cold starts at 6 AM will be a problem. There is some highway drone in the 2,000-2,500 RPM range, though less than most competitors at this volume level. At $1,800+, it's one of the pricier cat-back options. If you want the Borla quality without the extreme volume, the S-Type is their milder option with a more refined tone.
