Why Install This?

Benefits

  • Easy bolt-on installation — most people can do this in their driveway with basic tools

What Does This Do?

The thermostat controls when coolant starts flowing through the radiator. Stock thermostats open at about 203°F, which is optimal for emissions and fuel economy. This Mishimoto unit opens at 160°F, meaning coolant circulates to the radiator much sooner, keeping everything cooler. Benefits: reduces engine temps by 20-40°F under load, prevents heat soak during track days or heavy traffic, cooler intake air temps mean slightly denser air charge. Essential for forced induction builds where heat management is critical. Trade-offs: the engine takes longer to reach operating temperature in cold weather, which means reduced fuel economy and more wear during warmup. Your temperature gauge will read lower than normal — this is expected, not a problem. On stock naturally-aspirated engines that aren't tracked, you may not notice any benefit.

Technical Details

Lower temperature thermostat opens at 160°F vs stock 203°F. Keeps engine temperatures lower for consistent performance. Direct OEM replacement.
