Why Install This?
Benefits
- Incremental gains that stack well with other bolt-on mods
- Lighter rotating mass means faster spool-up and quicker shifts
- Carbon fiber driveshafts reduce vibration at high RPM
- Moderate install — doable in a home garage with some mechanical experience
What Does This Do?
Carbon fiber is incredibly strong yet extremely light — this driveshaft weighs about 60% less than the stock steel unit. Every pound of rotating weight you remove is amplified during acceleration because the engine doesn't have to spin that mass up to speed. Benefits: the most weight savings of any driveshaft option (~15 lbs lighter than stock), one-piece design eliminates the center support bearing, carbon fiber absorbs vibration better than metal for a smoother ride, and chromoly slip yoke ensures reliable U-joint connection. Trade-offs: carbon fiber driveshafts can shatter on catastrophic failure (a metal shaft bends, which is more survivable). If you drag race, ALWAYS use a driveshaft safety loop — it's required at most tracks and it's cheap insurance. CF shafts are expensive ($760+). They can also be damaged by rocks or road debris hitting the underside of the car. For a street car, the DSS aluminum one-piece gives you 70% of the weight savings at lower cost with more durability. Carbon fiber is for the weight-obsessed racer who wants every advantage.
