Why Install This?
Benefits
- Eliminates the spongy feel of rubber brake lines under hard braking
- Stainless steel lines give a firmer, more consistent pedal
- Moderate install — doable in a home garage with some mechanical experience
What Does This Do?
Stock brake lines are rubber, and under hard braking they expand slightly — this is what causes that 'soft' or 'mushy' pedal feel, especially after repeated hard stops. Stainless steel braided lines don't expand, so all the force from your foot goes directly to the calipers. Benefits: immediately firmer, more consistent brake pedal feel. Better modulation — you can feel exactly how much braking force you're applying. DOT-approved for street use. They're also more durable than rubber lines (rubber degrades over time from heat and chemicals). Trade-offs: the improvement is in feel, not stopping power — your stopping distances won't change much because the pads and rotors are the same. The braided outer sheath can wear through painted caliper brackets over time if not routed properly. At $150-200, these are one of the best bang-for-buck brake upgrades available. Install them at the same time as a brake fluid flush.
