Why Install This?
Benefits
- The single biggest grip upgrade — tires are the only thing connecting you to the road
- Performance tires improve cornering, braking, and acceleration simultaneously
- Easy bolt-on installation — most people can do this in their driveway with basic tools
Things to Know
- Performance tires typically have shorter tread life than all-seasons
What Does This Do?
Continental's ECS02 is a serious contender to the Michelin PS4S throne. It uses Continental's proprietary BlackChili compound for exceptional dry grip that approaches the Michelin's performance. Benefits: excellent dry grip (very close to PS4S levels), strong wet performance with wide circumferential grooves, good tread life for a UHP tire (the +SportPlus Technology improves wear), and the price is typically $50-75 less per tire than the PS4S. Set of 4 gives you consistent grip across all four corners. Trade-offs: ultimate dry grip is a hair behind the PS4S (most drivers won't notice unless they're on a track with a stopwatch). The tire is slightly noisier on the highway than the Michelin. Like all summer tires, these are NOT for cold weather or snow — the compound hardens below 40°F. If you want the best possible tire regardless of price, the PS4S wins by a thin margin. If you want 95% of the performance at 80% of the cost, the Continental is the smart buy.
