Why Install This?

Benefits

  • Maximum straight-line traction for consistent launches
  • Dramatically reduces 60-foot times at the drag strip
  • Easy bolt-on installation — most people can do this in their driveway with basic tools

Things to Know

  • Not suitable for daily driving or wet conditions

What Does This Do?

The Nitto NT555R is a DOT-legal drag radial designed for maximum straight-line traction. The tread compound is softer than the Mickey Thompson ET Street (more grip but wears faster). Benefits: incredible launch traction — the soft compound and 305mm width grip the pavement hard enough to dramatically reduce wheel spin. DOT-approved for street use. The radial construction means they ride better than bias-ply drag tires. Trade-offs: tread life is very short (3,000-5,000 miles depending on driving style). They're terrible in rain — the minimal tread pattern can't evacuate water effectively. In corners, the soft sidewalls flex and the car feels vague and unpredictable. These are rear-only tires — NEVER put them on the front. Many owners run these as 'event tires' — mount them for drag strip days and swap back to street tires for daily driving. If you're choosing between Mickey Thompson and Nitto drag radials: the Mickey Thompson grips slightly better but the Nitto is cheaper and more readily available.

Fitment Notes

Rear tires only (305/35R20). Not for front use.
